Independent DVD Review: Revenge of the Fat Cats, A Double Film DVD by Fat Cats Production. |
Intro
Two years travelling four continents, paddling classic locations and visit unexplored destinations: Laos, New Zealand, Greenland, British Columbia.
Greenland the Movie
Ali Marshall and Simon Tapley brought home some breathtaking footage of their kayak expedition to Greenland. Tiring hikes with kayak gear and enduring about trizillion flies are rewarded with unique white water kayaking of class V on steep rivers with lots of drops and slides. “After six weeks in Greenland, we realised it wasn’t just about the kayaking. That was a small piece of the picture. It was more about the adventure, the wilderness and the excitement of being the first person to kayak a river.” I envy you guys for being there! Thanks for sharing this with us.
The Revenge of the Fat Cats
The second film explores the Mekong in Laos / Cambodia / Thailand as well as various rivers in New Zealand and British Columbia, Canada. The Mekong on the Cambodian side at 4000 Islands, with its endless channels, waterfalls and rapids of class IV and class V presents itself as a huge playground. This is followed by insane waterfalls and playboating in British Columbia and New Zealand. It is rounded up with some “Wittness the Shitness” and an adequate amount of inappropriate behaviour.
Production
All footage is shot from the river bank and is of good quality. The camera positions, however, don’t necessarily set new standards (which is not easy on a two men expedition with one guy paddling). The Greenland footage is accompanied by singer-songwriter music and some comments on the expedition. The Revenge footage features some harder sound from Silent Soundz, Yungun & Mr Thing, Blind Alphabetz feat. M1 of Dead and others.
Conclusions
The films are pretty straight forward without much frills. To me, the Greenland expedition is definitely the highlight of this double film DVD. If you enjoy documentary DVDs on white water kayaking expeditions to unexplored destinations, you have been longing for this footage. If you are looking for entertaining extreme kayaking with reckless footage of insane paddlers, the Revenge of the Fat Cats won’t disappoint you either.
