Playspot: USA, California, El Dorado County, Lotus, South Fork of the American River, Satan's Cesspool |
What's it like
The hole is about four feet wide and pretty sticky. There are rock walls on both sides and a huge eddy behind it to recover. Watch out to not bash your shoulder on river right. There is also a pretty fun little 10-15 foot cliff to boof off on river left obout 20 feet downstream:
The river is full of nice little playspots so keep an eye out for them. It's best to get on the water between 1:00 pm and 4:00 pm.
How to get there
Take highway 50 towards Lake Tahoo and get off on the Shingle Springs exit. At the light take a left across the overpass then at the next light take a right. You go for about 2-3 miles and you will come to a Y in the road. Take a left here onto Lotus rd. Follow all the way down you will so Henderson park on your left, where you can park. You will be running down the south fork of the American River. Satan's Cespool is about 6-7 miles downstream.
The take out is Folsom Lake at Skunks Hollow. Take a right up Salmon Falls Rd to the top and hop on highway 49 going right towards Coloma. Go through Coloma and take a right after the bridge onto Lotus Rd. You will see Henningson park on your right.
