Montreal, River Lachine, Big Joe (Vomit Comet)

Playspot: Canada, Quebec, Montreal, River Lachine, Big Joe (Vomit Comet).

What's it like

paddler: Olivier Trudel-Languedoc

Vomit Comet is a huge wave-hole located near the end of the Lachine Rapids. It's like Skookumchuck, except it runs all the time. No eddy service - you have to work your way up some shallow water to the surfer's right, and then ferry back to it. A bit of a mission, but worth it. The wave is HUGE - really big. You can do any freestyle move on the list and generally go nuts. Cartwheels are very difficult, but possible. More than two ends is unlikely though. Ten minute rides are possible, and tiring.....

You can also enjoy many other playspot nearby.

How to get there

Head downstream about 500 yards from Thunderball (see CA, QC), and look for a wooden platform station in the middle of the river. Vomit Comet is just downstream to the right of the platform.
