Oct 25 Social Instagram Dropping over 2700 feet in just under seven miles, this is the steepest run that has ever been done as part of a FERC relicensing flow study! This past weekend, Ben Stookesberry, Chris Korbulic, Rush K Sturges, Eric Boomer and Will Pruett completed a first descent of Grizzly Creek, a Tributary to the North Fork Feather River (CA). American Whitewater CA Stewardship Director, Dave Steindorf said, “ We knew this was a stout run, so we assembled the best team we could find”. This expert team took two days to complete the run but proved that Grizzly Creek is boatable. They also made estimates of the range of acceptable flows and the viability of future descents. This information will be used to develop a more natural hydrograph which will improve conditions for fish, frogs and whitewater boaters looking for adventure. As if to come full circle, Grizzly Creek enters the North Fork Feather at the top of the Cresta run, site of one of the first AW whitewater flow studies in California back in 1999. With over 50 flow studies completed and 100 + flow release days in 2016, this study caps an amazing 17 years of progress for paddling in California. #repost @rushsturges ======> Just wrapped up a RAD multi day First Descent down Northern California's 'Grizzly Creek' near Chico, CA. HUGE shout out to @redonkulous2u for having me along on this mission... As well as @americanwhitewater for making the flow study happen! This creek was one of the steepest I've ever paddled (2,800 ft. in about 6.5 miles) and for 2 full days it did not let up! Here's a @gopro photo of @ckorbulic flying off a super fun little set of drops... Oct 7 Social Instagram Paddling the raging headwaters of Myanmar's Irawaddy River down to its coastal flats was to be a different sort of journey of a lifetime for whitewater dream team Ben Stookesberry and Chris Korbulic. With just 75 miles behind them they were stopped by secret police and detained. Learn what went wrong in our October issue. Oct 7 Social Kokatat FB We just spoke with Team Kokatat Ben Stookesberry after returning from the Greenland Expedition. Congrats to Ben, Sarah McNair-Landry, and Erik Boomer on a successful crossing of Greenland along a new route culminating in the First Descent of a river they are calling Twin Galaxies. Ever thought about spending a month to get to a put-in?
