Apr 30 Social Jackson Kayak FB Part 7 @benstookesberry South Chile: On my first trip to Chile in 2003 the game was different. There was no readily available global satellite imagery, and so we explored via hearsay and paper maps. Back then we would have never hiked up 15kms on the Rio Engaño based on this Satellite map induced “hunch” on a river that the local ranchers, Manuel and Rosa, said “repeatedly disappears underneath the mountain.” And so fueled by Google Earth overconfidence and shear speculation of what is inside those 6 mysterious gorges west of Bahia Murta, we packed 5 days worth of picnics and hiked up and then mostly back down the Rio Engaño. Yet in that hiking we reveled in the glory of this beautiful wilderness, made a few quality paddle strokes, and will always cherish these types of genuine local connections that you can only make through exploratory kayaking. 📷 @eboomer with @nourianewman #teampicnic @ Bahía Murta, Aisen Del General Carlos ...

Apr 26 Social NRS FB What could possibly trump the potential to drop a big waterfall on a first D? A Brie break on the scout, of course. Bighorns Part 2 brings the paddling trio, Erik Boomer, Ben Stookesberry and Nouria Newman to the Tongue River. The crew could easily identify most of the crux challenges from satellite imagery, and luck would have it that the river looked even more paddle-able in real life.

Apr 12 Social Instagram @kokatatusa published my article on our six day #firstdescent of a tributary to the #takuriver in Northern British Columbia and SE Alaska. Jan 17 Social Canoe & Kayak Magazine FB @eboomer doing his thing. ・・・ 📷 @sarahmcnairlandry. Removing my crampons as I slide into my boat and rolled into this big dawg is a moment I will never forget. 40 days of man hauling and snowkiting brought us this huge surprise. This was a big risk to take on the remote west coast of Greenland but I knew I would never be back here again and this was my one chance to follow my intuition and follow the flow on this one! The result- a little cut on my nose. I also wasn’t worried because I had my first kayaking hero/ now friend @benstookesberry below to pick up the pieces.

Jan 16 Social Canoe & Kayak Magazine FB In counting down the most grueling portages of his storied expedition paddling career, Ben Stookesberry recalls his first-descent run of the legendary Dudh Kosi's unrun gorges with Surjan Tamang as 'a long story' -- here it is, from C&K's July 2014 edition: candk.me/DudhKosi
