A good boat in my veiw

About the reviewer

I have owned one of these for 3 years. I started paddling w/w about 15 yrs ago and sea about 3 years ago.

I have paddled about half a dozen different sea kayaks over the years including a Skerray, a Capella, a Seayak, a Barracuda, an Avatar, an Easky and a Romany

Test environment

Coastal waters around Newfoundland and Nova Scotia, in a wide variety of condition and very occasionally I have ventured out into 35knot winds. I have done several overnight trips with it.

Construction and Outfitting:- The plastic does not appear as stiff and hard as some however there is no sign of oilcanning and it copes with abrasion well. The hatch covers are still watertight and there is plenty of luggage space. I did have a small leak develope near the bottom of the front bulkhead and have to buy a special sealant to mend this. The outfitting is good and I remain comfortable for 3 to 4 hours. The foot pegs can be adjusted while in the boat which means you can relax the fit for a rest when on easy water.

Performance:- The boat is certainly as fast as the other boats I have paddled with the exception of the Barracuda. I find the slight rocker makes it easy to manoeuvre. It goes onto an edge easily, though holding it on edge for 30 mins is tiring. I suspect that a beginner would find it unstable, having said that it is an easy boat to roll. It weather cocks a fair bit but this improves when loaded with gear for 3 days and can be corrected with the skeg.
The area behind the seat is quite large and can retain water after an X rescue, I put my fresh water there.

Conclusion

I am pleased with this boat and would buy it again in preference to the other plastic boats that I have paddled.

It is a fairly high performance boat well suited to tripping and feels good in rough water.
