Im getting out of Wisconsin and have decided on NC... where should I live? Im a Paramedic and most counties are looking for medics but Im not too smart on the best boating scene... Im thinking Asheville area

Weigh in

If you were going to live in any specific part of NC...where'd it be?

Thanks and see you on the water soon!!!!!!!

worth the cost of living?

I do love Asheville...well the couple hrs I was there :roflol:

I was looking at Charolette if i cant find work in Asheville (dont suppose you know of many paramedic jobs there do you?)

But the good news is... Turns out you are free to leave Wi whenever you want... who knew?

You're too funny!! You're free to leave WI whenever you want? Wow, I thought you knew that already. Oh wait, yeah, you do. Good thing you don't have anything good to stick around for. Good luck in Ashville or wherever the hell you decide to go.

Asheville is a great place, but I will worn you that the jobs around here a few and far between. And the ones that you can find, will not pay worth a flip.

I am not familiar with Paramedic jobs around here, but there are alot of paddlers here with that profession so when they get a job like that they hold on to them.

As far as \"worth the cost of living\", it will take some getting use to. Things are expensive here and there will be a lot of sticker shock. You will have a love-hate relationship with the city for awhile.

Asheville is about 70,000 people. Charlotte's population will probably break one million by 2010. They are totally different and about two hours apart. Or more depending on traffic.

The things that will keep you here is the whitewater, music, beer, paddling community and if your single... the women.

Things that will dirve you away... cost of livin, work, pollution and traffic.

I live outside of chapel hill, pretty much right in the middle of the state. It is about four hours to the mountains of NC and 4.5 hours to the New River Gorge and Gauley rivers in WV. Paddling wise you have to drive a little ways, but its nothing too bad. UNC and Duke both have hospitals and I am sure that there would be a good demand for paramedic jobs in the area.
I would def. look at the western part of the state though. Asheville is a very cool city and I plan on moving closer to the Mountains ASAP.

I'm jealous...I've considered going to work for TVA somewhere around the Tennessee/North Carolina border...definitely my favorite area that I've ever been to...but it would cause custody issues with my ex-wife. Even though she never sees the kids, I still gotta keep them in the same state as her. :(

Tennessee Valley Authority...it's a power company...mostly they're hiring nuclear engineers and stuff right now. It's a government job, so they give preference to ex-military. I'm ex-navy and have been a maintenance operator and supervisor in both nuclear and fossil plants for the last 18 years, so it would be pretty easy for me to get a job there.
