Looking for instruction around Salem Oregon 17 years 11 months ago #14837

Virgin Kayaker looking for instruction. I would like someone to teach me some basics, in particular how to roll. I think Detroit Lake would be a good place to start. Then the same day I would like someone to go down the North Santiam with me. Willing to pay whatever you think is fair for your time, up to $100. Also willing to pay for gas and lunch and maybe a few beers afterwards. I have already purchased some equipment. I have a Dagger Ego, sprayskirt, paddle, helmet, pfd and whistle. Please somebody help me get started, I have gone down the North Santiam a few times in a crappy inflatable, but this seems a lot different. I'm off weekends and could probably get out of work on a Friday by calling in sick. Thanks everybody.

Hey, I'm not sure if you'd be willing to drive, but there's a few good places around the Portland area that I know of, There's Alder Creek and also eNRG kayaking with sam drevo .
There is also Wilamette Kayak and Canoe club out of Corvallis, but that's not really for instruction, but a good opportunity to go boating, or possibly find someone willing to instruct you. www.wkcc.org.

Thanks for the tip, but I've checked those out already. It's not the drive that gets me, it's the extra money... Upwards of $200 for a day of instruction.
