I'm looking for some advice I am heading to france for a couple of weeks in April, Is it still worth me packing my boat and trying to get some paddling done or is it too early in the year and where would be good. Any advice would be appreciated.

iv been to france many times and there are tones of rivers most of which however are flat water but it is still nice to see all the sites whilst paddling.
There isnt any point in packing your boat howver because most of the rivers will let you rent and a rec boat is much better for paddling on these rivers rather than a play boat
Hope iv helped ya out man

Hi, I have been in france last year... it's a beautifull place with a lot of rivers... many flat and class I-II... but there are good whitewater rivers such as The Grand Canyon du Verdon, the Ubaye, the Guil and the world famous wave Hawaii-sur-Rhone.
I'm planning to visit France another time this year... it's an awesome place!

Thanks for the comments. I should have made myself a bit clearer, I am actually looking for some whitewater Grade III - IV.

Matt,

look at the levels at www.eauxvives.org/fr/niveaux/en-direct/index
Unpredictable where the water will be in april, but expect no good water in the France Alpes, chance is high it is too early for that.
Better chances wiill be:
the Alpes-maritimes (in the list under PROVENCE-ALPES-CôTE D'AZUR). Search the web for those rivers and you 'll find enough in the area of class 3-4, also put in the Verdon and Var (allthough for them it also could be too early as they come from the more northern part of the alpes martimes, depends on the temperature)
The french Pyrenee (MIDI-PYRéNéES) could be good in that period and also contains a lot of class III-IV.
The massif Central (around Tarn and Ardech) can be OK, but have less snowy mountains, but there is snow over there so check out the levels.

cu, Menno
