Shaun Rubenstein to Olympics 17 years 9 months ago #17440

Congrats to Shaun for qualifying for the Olympic games next year in Beijing! He recently placed in the 1000m K1, 7th and in the 500m K1, 8th at the world sprinting championships. A truly fantastic achievement!

This is on top of winning the World Marathon Championships in 2006 in his K1 and managed second place in a k2 along with Shaun Biggs at the same event.

More news this morning:
\"
Beijing, China
Olympic Test Regatta

East Rand based Olympic Qualifier, Shaun Rubenstein, continued the
prolific form he has shown all season by winning the 1000m semi final
this morning. In doing so, Rubenstein has achieved A Final positions
in every regatta he has raced in this year, cementing his 3rd place
ICF International Ranking.

After a shaky start to the regatta following a 2 week break,
Rubenstein bounced back from the 4th place in yesterday's heat to win
the semi final this morning, beating Zupanjic from Slovenia into 2nd
and Hungarian Zoltan Benko into 3rd. Russia's 500m specialist Anton
Ryakhov was 4th and does not go through to the A Final.

The 1000m A final will be raced on Saturday Morning and the 500m A
Final will be raced on Sunday.

Rubenstein returns back to South Africa next Wednesday after having
spent the last 4 months racing overseas.
