hey mate,
my name is wouter and i am from wassenaar which is just north of den haag. I have surfed easky in ireland with my surf boat but that's about it.
nowadays i go to uni in durham, england.

Well..... there is very little ww to be found in holland but there are some keen people, for kit go to felix canoes in oude weteringen, or double dutch in geldrop (long way away) if you want a ww trip to the alps contact www.zwalker.nl and if you want to surf in holland keep your eye out cos it does get good every now and then, just enough to keep the hand in anyway.
i think there are a few clubs around involved with touring, and there is a surf kayak club based underneath the light house south of scheveningen, who operate summer wednesday evenings i think.

good luck

Wouter Wynberg

Hahaha you picked a wrong time to ask this question, the whole Dutch kayaking community is going apeshit over Dutch water dreams... But anyhow: there are plenty of kayak clubs around, they aren't all as active as you would wish, but still. Mail me when you're in the Hague, we go kayaking sometime... You can find me at

I'm afraid Wouter is missing a few local and very active paddling clubs. ;)

Located near the "Uithof" oudoors centre (skating, snowboarding etc.) is the Windhappers. They do a lot of different types of paddling, including canoe polo, WW/freestyle, touring, sea kayking and surfing. for more information see www.windhappers.nl/ . They are nice people and fun to paddle with.

Next, at Ter Heijde, near Monster (just south of The Hague) is the surf-specific club 4 Winden, which is a mixed board/kayak surf club (I'm a member there myself). See our website www.members.lycos.nl/devierwinden/. Let me know if you'd like to visit and paddle with us sometime :D

BTW: there's also a Dutch forum where you can get in touch with loads of Dutch paddlers, although most of them are kayak-surfers. Stop by at www.kanoforum.nl/ and say hello

Cheers,

Michiel

Ter Heijde is my preferred surfspot, and I always wondered what the URL of the club was... Nice to have finally found it.

Quite funny to see all the same nicknames on all the different kayakforums! [b:7effdeafa8]Hiyaa Lennert, greets Michiel[/b:7effdeafa8] Where's Rocky?!

Oh well, kayaking in the Netherlands is bound to have a small group of internet-enthousiasts... After all, the whole kayaking community is a small group down here ;-) Maybe we should have focussed more on building ourselves some mountains, in stead of all those boring dams and dykes  [/u]

You'll be amazed to see how small it is once you've been out of a paddling discipline for a few years. Happened to me when I didn't play polo for a few years (work, graduating, moving across the country etc.). When I turned up a few years later people not only recognized me but also knew my nickname (and weakness) as well

Anyway, back to the topic: the clubhouse of "4 Winden" in Ter Heijde is back on the beach! Hooray! Let's hope for a bit of sunshine and some good surf

Cheers all,

Michiel

PS completely off-topic: I love the "bitching" emoticon! I can watch it for hours! *lol*
