Video editing software? 15 years 3 months ago #28575

Hello,

What is good for editing videos these days, for a PC? I've been using Studio 10 for a while but because you need to pay to unlock all the cool features (and even standard stuff, like slow motion), I'm not enjoying it that much. Ok, so I didn't pay for it in the first place but am looking at buying something decent now. I've noticed my videos are not what they should be!

Any advice would be most welcome. I'm sure loads of people will give some good suggestions! I guess it'll depend on what I can buy in South Africa too, but I'm open to options...

Thanks,
Adrian

Hi Adrian

I know Adobe has some hard core software, I had a copy but it was way too challenging to operate.
I got too frustrated with PC based software, and ended up moving to apple. Apples come with Imovie that is simple and provides everything you could ever want for basic editing. Then apple offers a more advanced software called final cut pro, that ive heard is very good.
Its probably not what you want to here if you already have a good pc set up, but apples have the software and the hardware to make video editing a lot less painful than pc's.
In fact everything is less painfull!

cheers

I hear Adobe is good, but very user unfriendly as you say... Thanks for the advice though! Yeah I know all about Mac VS PC. I'll still stick to PC :) haha. I've got a pimp lap top so no point in changing for the next few years.

A mate of mine called me yesterday and said he could get me some great stuff which he uses (he makes movies & does filming for a living... He made this one: www.zapiks.com/nil-blanc-mariann-saether-ka.html) but I can't remember what it was called. But I would imagine it's the business though... Of course I don't expect any of my videos to look as good as that! Then another mate (good friends!) mailed me and gave me a link to download some cracked stuff. Corel VideoStudio Pro X2 and Ulead MediaStudio Pro 8. Not sure which one is better than the next, anybody know?

Hi Adrian,

I use Adobe Premiere Pro and to confirm what you guys are saying it is difficult to get the hang of. However, once used to it the programme is fantastic. The only other down side is the price and whether your PC is good enough to handle it.

p.s I trust your Indo trip was epic.

Shot Scotty! I'm sure my chomp is up to it :-) But Andrew is coming down Friday and says he's bringing some cool software. So I guess I won't have to part with any more hard earned $$$'s... :P It was excellent yeah :-) What an awesome place to kayak, for all kayakers!

I've been using Sony Vegas software and been pretty happy with it.

Platinum Pro Pack is just US$114.95 with plenty of features to edit kayaking videos

Thanks Tuomas! If I don't come right, I'll check that out. I like your videos a lot... Seems like a good price too.

I agree with Tuomas here. Sony Vegas Pro is easy and works really good. The same program that I've been using for my videos. ;)

Thanks Øivind! :)

I couldn't get that other software from my mate as it was only for MAC's...

But I managed to download a copy of Vegas Movie Studio Platinum Version 9.0b. I've only started playing with it this morning and considering I still have large amounts of alcohol in my system my concentration is not very good at the moment! But the software looks super cool!!!! I'm very stoked. So thanks for the tips, appreciate it. I'll see how my next video comes out.

If anyone wants to know where to 'get' this software, message me ;)

Been very happy with the software, but now have a small problem:

It seems to struggle a fair amount with video, at 60 frames per second from a GoPro HD. My computer has an Intel dual core 2.2 GHz processor and 2 GB of RAM. Is that not enough?! It handles any normal video at 30 frames per second with ease, no matter how big or complex it is. Any suggestions? :)

cyberlink power director is what i use to edit my video at 60fps. i dont like it for editing whole movies, but it does do the go pro footy well. then i load the go pro footy (which has already been slowed and made into a file at 30fps)into pinnacle studio 14 hd. works pretty nice. pinnacle freezes up now and then, but it's super easy to use, and relatively powerful.

You mean this one:

Nice price... Thanks for that! I may check it out. Need to finally buy some proper, legal software for a change ;) I have the original CD's from a friend of some Pinnacle. It wasn't bad but it annoyed me that you had to purchase all the extras. Even stuff like slow motion is considering an 'extra' with Pinnacle...

Anyone ever used the cyberlink software? :)

Thanks Andy, but I bought Cyberlinks Power Director 8 Deluxe yesterday... It was rated number 1 on this review:
video-editing-software-review.toptenreviews.com/

So for 50US$ I thought it a bargain, others did say it was good too. BUT it doesn't work. :cursing: I installed it 100%, but once you open it, it simply crashes. I uninstalled, restarted my computer, then closed all programs and virus checkers and firewalls and re-installed it. Same problem. It opens for about 30 seconds and then crashes all on it's own, without clicking anything... I have enough hard drive space and easily meet the requirements. I also updated all my graphics drivers.

I'm on the Cyberlink forum trying to get help but so I am very unimpressed. :bang: I've never had a problem with any software installations before. Hopefully things improve. :ask:
