I used a kendo from our club. You will fit in, but possibly without footrest (use balls). He's very forgiving, but his surfing and play skills are very bad.

If your not completely set on the idea of getting an eskimo, id say one of the jackson fun series would be a great, first time boat if you feel comfaortable on the river. They give you taste of riverrunning and playing so you can see where you have moore interest.

we'll I think the kendo is a good choicef for river running only. If your local river has any playspots near it I would agree with THE ROBMIESTER and get something more playful like the
- Jackson Fun, which i think can be a quarky boat.
-Pyrannah 7-0
-or maybe the new Liquid logic CR 125

I have only owned the JK boat, and would recomend trying all the boats before buying.

If your not interested in playboating and surfing a good choice is a diesel 65.

The problem with a kendo is low volume and a grabby stern. The stern will tend to flip you and make changing direction difficult in funny water.

Im about your size but a little heavier. I mostly paddled one of our club kendos last year. I fit in one but not the other, i think the one i couldnt fit in might have been newer. I got a pyranha inazone 232 a couple of months ago and so far its been a lot of fun. I think youd fit one pretty well. Just try out lots of boats before you chose.

im at the same stage as you well im intermidiate but till noew have had a load of bouts i can use now i want my own i dont no wether to get a cheap one then have wasted 400 wen im to good for it or to go and buy a top of the range wowee joby ive found that jackson , robson, zelezny and bliss stick look good and are reasonably cheap althoughthe jackson do have stupid sizes my mate has a kendo and says its a good first boat but as soon as you have worked out what u want to focus on i.e. play, creeking you need to get one focusedon that my advise borrow other peoples when ur at the rivers and see what u would like to do then get a bout of that sort i mite be getting an igo soon they look pretty good

I am a big Jackson fan (Fun series) there are boats that you can't go wrong with.
Riot boats are a very close second.
TRY AS MANY AS YOU CAN GET YOUR HANDS ON BEFORE YOU BUY.
Most of us are limited by some budget and would rather get the right one that fits our size and needs within the first purchase or so...

Try Try Try..

I'm with Louise on this one. The Kendo is the safe, forgiving option as the Eskimo plastic is bulletproof but those who have used it have not progressed with their paddling as quickly as others.

Here's one of our beginners:

Kendo is good if you have big fast waves around. Keep the boat if you have anything like that. I'm a playboater but we have a 5ft flat wave here that is a lot of fun to surf in a big boat. It's so powerful, I was butt bouncing in an RPM. :roflol: :roflol: Lots of fun.
