hi all singlebladers!
i paddle a spanish fly more as a creekboat and downriver boat than a playboat. i know that the fly is slow as compared to an ocoee or zephyr. but as i can't afford to get either of them i am looking at my technique. does anyone have any tips or know of any oc1 technique books/dvds which may be useful in developing my forward power strokes.

things i have tried..
sitting the boat on edge - works quite well for generating aceleration.
ensuring the paddle is super-vertical - again works well for the first few strokes.
alternating on and off-side strokes - ok, but the boat seems to end up spinning out towards the off side alot, especially if i lean forward whilst edged to the off side...!

also, an unrelated quiery.... why the f&*k can't i roll the bugger!!

Hey Simao,
I would look at Kent Ford's \"Drill time\" dvd.
Go to www.performancevideo.com
There is also a small workbook. These should help.
good luck
cheers

I used to paddle one, and miss the \"pig troff\" as it got nicknamed, canoeing is more about slowing down to get through the rapid dry is better than charging. Try keeping the hull flat as you may been edging too much and as you take the blade outthe boat will automatically carve in the directon of the lean. Practise Practise Practise.

On the rolling front, I found once the outfitting is snug I found that a screw roll worked really well, and for extra support, scull the blade back to the front to finish in a forward position ready for the next hole/ rapid etc

Have fun I may have to get another fly and join u in the 'Pig troff parade' ;)
