Oct 2 Social Instagram Depois de bater na trave duas vezes e terminar com o vice (2013/2014), a carioca Caio Vaz sagrou-se campeão mundial de stand up paddle. O irmão de Ian Vaz garantiu o título ao avançar à final do Us Open, terceira e última etapa do Circuito, nesta quinta-feira, em Huntington Beach, na Califórnia. Ele terminou a disputa nos Estados Unidos em segundo lugar, atrás do taitiano Poenaiki Raioha. Zane Schweitzer e Sean Poynter completaram o pódio, em terceiro. Caio precisou correr cinco baterias até garantir a vaga na decisão. O caminho para o título ficou aberto após a eliminação do atual campeão mundial, Kai Lenny, e foi confirmado com a eliminação de Zane Schweitzer, segundo colocado no ranking, na segunda semifinal. Engasgado pela segunda colocação nas últimas temporadas, eles não escondeu a emoção. - Eu não acredito ainda que ganhei. O locutor disse: 'O novo campeão mundial, Caio Vaz'. E eu pensei: 'Caramba, sou eu!'. Estou muito feliz. Nos últimos dois anos eu quase havia conseguido, mas acabava não tendo o resultado que precisava na última etapa. Seria legal que a disputa pelo título fosse até a final, mas pensei também que se acabasse antes ficaria feliz também - disse Caio, que também foi vice-campeão nas etapas anteriores, no Havaí e no Taiti.
