Apr 12 Social Esquif FB For years paul mason has been teaching the 2x4 technique as the main stay of solo whitewater canoeing technique. If you’ve taken one of his courses, or are a canoe instructor yourself, what are the four components of the 2x4 technique? What is the best order in which to present them? I know, I can’t tell you either without looking at my waterproof lesson plan. That is not a good sign because either my mind is turning to mush or it’s just too confusing to remember. If I can’t easily remember them, how can I expect a new paddler to do so? Try this. You are the captain (CAPT) of your vessel. So use Cadence, Angle, Position and Tilt to control the arc of your canoe. These are the four components of the 2x4, in the optimal order to present them. Paul Mason is a Paddle Canada canoe instructor and patron. He shares his love of canoeing through his canoe courses and website www.canoeinstruction.co
