31 years after the original design was used by Mike Jones' team to make the first descent of Everests river the Dudh Kosi, it's fitting we reincarnate the classic Everest name for a new breed of expedition WW kayak for 2008. Based on the phenomenal Burn design, this is the load carrying expedition kayak that will fit the big boys too!

More length, more bow rocker, more aggressive deck profiling and slightly softer edges all combine to make a super predictable expedition river kayak.

About the reviewer

I'm not a great paddler, but what the hell, at least I'm out paddling...

Test environment

All over the place

Review

This boat does everything I ask of it plus more. I used it for coaching on a pond, in the sea and on rivers and still can't find anything it won't handle. It runs rapids with ease, it's very forgiving and surfs quite nicely as well.

I havn't had to roll it in a real situation yet, but practices have been fine.

Conclusion

Quite possibly the best, most versatile boat I've ever paddled.

The Everest is flippin sweet!

I'll start with the basics...

Its a big boat; 82.4 gallon volume, 8'8" in length and 19.5" in width

SEAT: Very comfortable
(Back band and hip padding are very adjustable)

THIGH BRACE: nicely padded
(Very easy to get properly adjusted)

FOOT BRACE: Easy to move around.

COCKPIT: biggg, its easy to get in and out (I have not had any problems getting out during wet exits)

PILLAR supports: the front one is made up of hefty plastic and has nifty little recesses for water bottles with a elastic band to keep it from going places. The rear pillar is foam about 3.5" wide

STABILITY: for me very stable, in rough water its very forgiving.(I can lean to one side or another without it rolling, much further than other boats I've used)

SPEED: I feel that it is a fairly "fast" yak.

MANEUVERABILITY: I find that it is very easy to stay on course in rapids, to turn, and catch eddies.

ROLLABILITY: I have not had any problems with rolling this craft.

I can't say much about surfacing, because it stays on the surface no matter what, even loaded down with gear.

I seem unable to harm this boats performance with weight. I've had this boat packed to the gills with food and camping gear and it still sits high on the water.

Conclusion

In conclusion; I'd recommend this boat to anyone who wants to camp, carry tons of gear, or anyone who likes a bigger boat.

The outfitting is great, its super easy to get every thing dialed in to fit properly. Which also makes for a super comfortable boat.

I like how this boat handles in all scenarios that I have placed it in.
