The Horizon was designed shortly after the Solander in response to a request for slightly more stablity with most of the Solander's easy, responsive paddling characteristics.
A bit more volume was added to the chines, creating a medium- sized kayak that is moderately chined for initial stability. It tracks well and is easy to turn when leaned on its slight chine. The sectional model (Horizon-S) comes apart in three sections. There are thirteen bolts-six bow and seven stern--in specially designed recesses that hold the sections together for part registration. The nut sides of the bolts are sealed to the recesses while the bolts are handle tightenable with O ring seals and wrench loosening capacity, should you ever over tighten them. Assembly time is about fifteen mintues. The kayak is as strong or stronger than our one piece kayaks as the bulkheads are fabricated at the same time as the hull and deck. This is the best engineered sectional kayak we know of.
