A mini-interview with Adam Harvey, 2009 HP Kayak Surf Junior World Champion.
This interview was originally produced for the Portuguese web site 'kayaksurf.net'. |
Name: Adam Harvey
Age: 16
Address: Guernsey
Occupation: Student
Paddling since: 2000
Gear: Watertech ONA, Gath helmet, Lendal paddle, Nookie deck.
Sponsors: Watertech, Buff, Outdoor Guernsey, Quayside, Fusions ICT.
Recent competition achievements: 3rd Junior World Cup, Junior World Champion, 7th in Mens World Championships
Favourite break: Prelle (Guernsey).
Worlds in Portugal: Amazing experience, good vibe, great fun!
Favorite spot for the next Worlds: Mentawai, Indonesia.
Ocean Spirit Festival: It was a great festival and a great venue for the World Championships and I really hope I will go there again soon!
Evolution of kayak surfing: I think surf kayaking is evolving very quickly, now with the new amazingly light Watertech boats I see even bigger and better airs becoming a regular thing.
Kayak surfing on the Channel Islands: Over the last 5 years it has really grown, now you would be hard pushed to head down to Vazon (main surfing beach in Guernsey) and not see a surf kayaker out there. The level is constantly improving and it is becoming quite a well known sport on the islands.
Personal objectives in the sport: Keep my junior title, become men’s world champion and spend as much time as I can out in the surf!
Portugal: It was my first ever World Championships and I enjoyed every second of it. Can't wait for the next one!
Closing words: Thanks to Chris (my brother) for helping me in the sport!
