TOPIC: Surf kayaks

Surf kayaks 3 years, 2 months ago #31707

Hi all - wondering if anyone has views on different surf kayaks on the market now. Have been surfing for 40 years, still on short boards. Few years ago I Dagger Medieval came into my life and was great fun on shit days to six feet. Love the freedom of 360° spin/ roll options that things without fins have, but the Medieval has too much volume for the moves now and this is starting to 1. limit the imagination and 2. hurt when all this trapped air gets knocked around by the waves.
So I'm looking at upgrades. An old design by Prijon, the 'Release', and the Riot Ninja6'8". Big difference in weight there for a start.
Anyone have an opinion, or other options?
Cheers,

If your looking at playboat style craft that are fun in the surf you are looking at the right boats. The Ninja is a good one for sure, as most Riot boats are designed for waves. The release is awesome on river waves, but maybe not the best for the ocean. I'd also look at the Neckey Vibe, has a surf rail, or the Dragarosi Thruster. Your weight matters as well. I'd size up from the river in order to get more planning surface, and thus speed, in the surf.
