Solkan, Soca River, Sukenski Wave
Playspot: Slovenia, Solkan, Soca River, Sukenski Wave |
What's it like
A big breaking wave about 20 meters wide and 1.5 meters high, with a good eddie, next to a slalom course (WW II-III). It is also suited for beginners with a good roll. The wave only forms after rainfalls in the mountains (mostly early spring and late autumn) at flows of 200 to 400 cumecs.
The water temperature is normally about 10ºC and up to 18ºC in summer.
How to get there
The wave is in Solkan, which is between Bovec in the north and Nova Gorica in the south.
Coming from the south (Italy), take the highway to Trieste (A4), exit at Vilesse, cross the border to Nova Gorica and take the road north to Bovec. After 5 kms you you'll get to Solkan.
Coming from the north (Bovec), follow the road south to Nova Gorica. After some 80 kms you'll get to Solkan.
Once in Solkan, go to the Chinese restaurant. You'll see a small road on the other side of the restaurant leading down to the river. After 300 meters you'll reach the river (the old mill and the slalom course). There is a big parking place.
