Calgary, River Kananaskis, Kananaskis Wave

Playspot: Canada, Alberta, Calgary, River Kananaskis, Kananaskis Wave.

What's it like

A 4-6 foot wave surrounded by two large (15 foot wide, 30 foot long) eddies that are both man-made. The wave is about 2 meters across, very smooth and easy to get on. Swimming at this point results in the swimmer being washed to a man made race course which is full of eddies, all class III.

Any new shool wave move is possible on the wave: blunts, cleans, green grinds ...

The water is dam controlled and always cold, about 12ºC. The dam lets out water all year with summer being the most desirable season because of the warm air temperatures (20's ºC).

Very safe: no undercuts, sweepers because the course is maintained.

30.5 cfs typically flows through the wave.

How to get there

From Calgary, go west to highway 1, turn off on Kananaskis road south, right before the mountains (there are obvious signs). Continue to the river and you’ll see the wave.
