What was once a river destination, spanning, North Carolina and Tennessee popular for commercial rafting, kayaks, and even whitewater paddle boards the gorge is heavily affected by the storm.
Atop the gorge in Poplar North Carolina homes were washed away by the flooding and the official put was completely destroyed, as was the train trestle a short distance from the start of the run.
The railroad Industry is Leading the rebuilding efforts as much of the track running the gorge's length was torn apart.
Local boaters have already been posting information about the river's quality. They have also been expressing their concern that the railroad builders for CSX & Clinchfield Railroad are doing more harm to the area as they dredge, dig for topsoil below the high-water mark, blast rock, quarry stone from the river banks, and rush their work in a relentless 24-7 push to reopen the route to coal cars and other energy-related product processed in the Appalachia mountains.
In mid-November, about six weeks after the hurricane, we scouted the river from rafts, seeing how the rapids have been altered, and what the railroad builders are doing.
Is CXS doing things illegal?
