Aug 30 2019Instagram I have been watching The #GreenRiverTakeOver2019 since its inception, and this year was finally able to volunteer and support such a great cause. Every year a growing group of inspiring #women gather at the #GreenRiver to honor two of their sisters who have been lost following the pursuits they loved. The event is enthusiastically supported by whitewater retailers and the local community who provide swag and services that are raffled to support #charitable funds created in honor of Shannon Christy and Maria Noakes. Photography has always been a hobby and an artistic itch that has to be scratched, but every now and then there are days when you get caught up in the moment and realize the magic that is taking place in front of your lens. Honestly, I don’t think the #GreenRiverTakeover is something that a bunch of guys would have thought of, let alone pulled off; and yet years later @laurakfarrell and @emshanblatt continue to grow this #community of talented #paddlers into a feminine force for good. I feel very honored and quite humbled to have witnessed such an empowering day from the sidelines and hope the momentum continues for years to come. Aug 27 2019Dagger FB Dagger Kayaks was once again the lead sponsor of The Green River Takeover, 2019 being the event’s 6th year. It was another record year with a total of 98 women 'taking over' the Green together (including 33 on the Narrows)! The event raised $7,200 for the Shannon Christy Memorial Fund and Live Like Maria Memorial Fund. A huge thanks to each and every lady, especially the volunteers, who showed up and made the amazing event what it was! There were loads of winners of numerous raffle prizes, but the big winner of the custom Dagger Green Boat was Erica Smith. Erica is an amazing woman who instructs and shows her passion through paddling with a huge smile on her face all of the time. Despite having her leg in a cast, she still came to support the event. Aug 14 2019Instagram (Barely took photos, but video link is in my bio) No shit, there we were.....late in the day due to excess lifestylin’, and 3mi from the put in with 2ft of snow on the road. We almost turned back, but we figured we’re made of better stock than that. We hiked to a lake, saw a bald eagle on a stump by a waterfall drops into a meadow, then paddled to the top of the dam that feeds Fordyce. Also forgot my drytop and I was balls cold in a shortie. Kick ass day trip. A lot of rapids not in video. Made it to the “miles long” lake paddle at dusk and to the cars at nightfall. Jul 15 2019Dagger FB At this year's North Fork Championship Team Dagger's Geoff Calhoun went #PhantomFast for a 9th place finish in an incredibly stacked world class field of racers. Geoff had this to say about his experience: 'The North Fork Championship Final on Jacob's Ladder was the culmination of a year round effort of trying to raise my comfort level to compete at the world level. This year with international competition it was harder than ever to get into the final, and I spent most of my practice energy on the qualifying course in S-Turn rapid in the days before the race. Mental preparation for this event is really year round, and I'd been specifically focusing on efficiently padding long sections of whitewater fast while staying calm and not overexerting. I had developed a good plan of how to race Jake's and Golf Course to make sure to get all the gates, but only had a few practice runs on the course this season, so i lost some time by being a bit conservative.
