I'm going to be Vancouver in early May for a business trip. I'd like to get some paddling in while I'm there, as I've never been to BC before. I can bring paddling gear with me but would prefer not to bring a boat. (As some of you may have noticed, its got harder to fly with boats lately).

I'm comfortable on whitewater, or if this isn't feasible I'm up for sea kayaking. From what I can tell, May is too early for whale watching and probably still pretty cold!

Any advice on conditions, local clubs or paddlers is very welcome - Thanks!

I work at Western Canoeing & Kayaking about 40 min east of Vancouver. We have plenty of boats of all shapes and sizes and love to take out people on our rivers. If you are interested let me know and we can see what can be worked out. I am mainly a ww paddler.

Get in contact with the Vancouver Kayak Club

And another option for a boat is Sea to Sky kayak centre.

Have fun, plenty of paddling around, and in, Vancouver!

I also work at Western Canoeing & Kayaking and would be more than happy to take you out. The vancouver kayak club would be your best bet for the in town runs, the club will be holding a 50th aniversary festival on the Chilliwack River about 45 minutes out of Vancouverits in may but I think the date may still be up in the air. Should be good water, also the Puntledge River festival is in May not sure when though, its on Vancouver Island and is one of my favorite play rivers around.
