Product News: Freestyle Audio: Waterproof MP3 Player

Has anyone actually tried this thing? To be honest, I think that I would personally hate to have music in my ears while on the water. Don't get me wrong, I love music, but I think it wouldn't fit in with kayaking....

if it was a pure sound and you couldn't hear anything else then maybe it would be good for praticing for a competion like anyother sport. but it would totally ruin the social side of things and the fun is to lark about with your friends and be away from all the technology when paddling anyway.

Its for playboating. I have listened to music while i playboated before and it didnt distract me it made me go bigger though. I wouldnt use it for creeking. The MP3 player prolly works with can can ear flaps from shred ready!

Music on the river. No thanks. Whats the point? To me, it's about just going out and relaxing and not hearing any sounds except from those made by your paddle in the water. ;) ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh  Imagine your mate calling for help in that keeper hole while you drift down the strecth with System of a Down playing some gentle tunes in your ears :roflol: haha, would be funny, later on, hopefully... ;)

The loud thunder of the river is all the music I need...

On the river ofcource. Off the river I listen quite a lot of different music

Definatly the sound of the river or sea for me, but I have often thought it would be good to have some banging techno going when at a play spot, really helps me get in a rythm when skiing moguls as I am not thinking about technique. Mind you Adrian is right there is a safety issue here.

Watch out for the ?????

Tha Wha?? oh dear :)

Mind you funky looking gadget.

I would listen while play boating. I would most likely only use one head phone though so I could still hear if my buddies shouted some type of warning. I would not listen on a run of any fashion as it is easier for the group to get spread out a bit and then someone could go for a long swim.

NO way, Ive been searching for something like this for ages. I listen to music when i BMX and too me it reely gets you riding past your ability (going sick as some people say!) I would think it would be the same on the water reely getting psyched up for some BIG AIR. But thats me.

I find it hard to concentrate when not being able to hear the river, hear what people shout and really it's just ignorant. It wouldn't be so bad if the whole area you're kayaking had an overall music system so everyone could enjoy it and get a bigger buzz but to have a personal system is dangerous and rude.

I fully agree with the folks that say it would be great to playboat with your own personal soundtrack, but any sort of river running would be a big NO NO, has the potential to be very dangerous. You need your wits about you when out there and to block out one of your senses is just...well...senseless:lol:

It would be good for someone doing some sort of marathon or distance training. Paddling for long distances on flatwater can get rather boring:sleep: . But, for on the river while running a whitewater stretch or while playboating I think it's a bad idea due to the previously mentioned safety issues. :stop:

Yeah I use my Ipod in a dry bag by Seattle Sports when out in my racing shell because a multi-hour training session gets boring.

Hey Guys,

I actually have one. I was given it to try out at OR last sesason. I absolutly loved it. There are tiems that having music on the water is great. However. It broke pretty quickly. The earphones went the fastest. You have to make sure that the ear peace goes into your ear or leave it in the car. I found keeping the ear peices hanging in the dash board vents the best way to keep them dry. The cords at the time were demo's so I am not sure if they were factory or not but they leaked after a while from pulling them in and out of your ear. I removed the bendy peace which amplified the problem. If you excuse the pun. My buddy Dave had one and it died. however his ear peices lasted longer. He has mine now. The final word on them is they worked great, ruined eddy conversation completely.

I got the earbuds and made a waterproof case for my MP3.

I love using it. But one earbud is already broken after a few uses. I have run class III with it in. In cold water you need earplugs anyway and the music can get you pumped. It was a bummer when Revolution number nine (white album) came on though. In the pool it is quite cool.

I went to change the size of the insert and I was gentle. Still the earpiece split at the seam and my superglue solution did not quite work. I am hoping they will dry out and I will just have to stay upright!:D

I would kayak just as hard if I was deaf.

Things are starting to move here in the NE USA.
