Just baught myself a second hand boat and therE are quite a few deep sccratches and gouges. Some on the bottom some going accross the rails. Just wondering whats the best Way to get rid of them. There are raised parts where the plastic has been pushed. Can i simply get a hot knife and smooth away?any other options? Also just the general smoothness of the hull. Can you sandpaper or buff it or anything like that? Oh i have a fluid if it matters about plastic. Cheers.

I would leave it. Boats get scratched over the years, that's part of the game. Sanding it will effectively remove a tiny bit of plastic, shortening the life of your boat, even if only in the tiniest amount. :)

i sometimes 'shave' it off with a sharp knive. mostly a matter of cosmetics i guess. if it's a large chip, i sometimes try to bend it back in place and then shave off the rest. that doesn't
add real strength either, but i hope it prevents the large chip from catching and then becoming even larger.
