Hmm dunno if this wil b of any help but i hope it is.

I assume your double pumping to try and get the bow down? if so then when you end up on your tail then u can start the cartweel from there by letting the bow slice down and putting a backsweep stroke to sink the bow. Or u can try the following method.

First of all start by paddling forwards at a medium pace. Then edge your boat to about 45degrees. Then do a powerful forward sweep stroke and try and lift the bow out of the water(push with your feet too). When the bow starts to come back down then lean forwards and use a back sweep stroke to drive the bow down. For boats with large bouancy at the front of the cockpit (like my robson twintip) it just takes a lot of practice and quite a bit of strength.

P.S remember edging is the most important part of a flat water cartwheel!! practice paddling with as much edge as u can get and hold it there!

Hope all this helps

Your problem may be that you are throwing your weight backwards when your bow gets enough height. Try leaning fowrward as far as possible. It becoms much more difficult because you are using abs more. Also, can you cartwheel in a hole? remember that when ever cartwhelling even when on the stern one needs to lean fowrward. Also, make sure you have a good boat with good outfitting! Outfitting can make all the difference.

hope this helps,
nathan

I have the exact same problem you do, i do like a triple pump sort of thing and end up on my tail. Everybody keeps telling me to go for it on the second pump, and twist my torso and puch my legs way while using my hips.

If I was you:
A) eat pizza for more weight.
B) take lessons
C) no worry about cartwheeling in the flats until i can get my bow down.
It's much easier to get the bow down in a pour over hole. Also, you won;t be able to initiate a cartwheel from the stern if you can't get your bow down because you don't know how to lean fowrward. Lean fowrward as far as possible even if you get no amediate results. Beigin de develop core muscles instead of relying on your weight.
