Aloha, just giving you the inside track on our newest design.
Jerry Montgomery and I have been developing our Tandem Surf Ski for the past nine months and we're finally ready for production. Engineering a small, dry, stable, fast, rough water surf ski with a wide weight range is no easy task.
The new HUKI model S2-X Tandem Surf Ski is packed with a plethora of options and choices. For starters, she comes with standard foot-well drains and footstraps, and has optional High-Flow Gravity Drains that quickly bail the cockpits if you should be washed over by a monster. She has a thru-hull rudder system, several different carbon rudder blades to choose from, and, a transom mounted kick up rudder option, made entirely out of carbon fiber. You can even switch back and fourth between thru-hull and kick-up rudder. There are adjustable or custom fitted foot-wells in both cockpits as you choose. She has the HUKI Adjustable Response Steering System, and Dual Steering which is the ability to switch steering control to either cockpit. The original HUKI idea for locking your boat to your car top rack using a lock hole through the footwell divider in each cockpit provides a great place to fasten a leash for sure-strong attachment. Comfortable seats allow the paddler to lean back if needed. We can place bungees anywhere in the cockpits and anywhere on the decks in any configuration you desire with our low-profile, no-snag no-screws bungee loops. We can place hatches in the front bulkheads of each cockpit, under the paddlers' knees, or behind the rear cockpit seat. Three standard hatch sizes are offered.
As with our super popular single ski model S1-X, we've used computer software in shaping the hull. Our aim is to enhance proper paddling technique, body position for stability, cockpit position for surfing, and rocker & prismatic coefficient for maximum speed and maneuverability. The HUKI S2-X has angled cut-aways in the gunwale catch zone to help allow for a closer catch and longer pull on this already narrow tandem ski. The cockpits are set far enough apart so as to allow this close catch without tapping the front paddler, but not any farther apart than necessary. At exactly 24.5 feet by 18.75 inches, this surf ski has the narrowest overall beam of any tandem ski I'm aware of, providing sure speed in the flats and correct stroke technique. Stability and volume are noticeably better than our target competitor who claims a 19 inch wide ski that actually measures 19.5 inches wide. Yes, we beat that stability and the volume! Stability & volume are two more great reasons for choosing the HUKI S2-X for offshore racing in the big stuff.
We offer the full line of construction types that we're famous for, from common constructions every manufacturer offers, to the most exotic constructions in the world, specializing in super ultra-light offshore racing and super durable ultra-light adventure racing constructions.
