Mike Harvey moved to the Upper Arkansas River Valley in Central Colorado to be a whitewater rafting guide 6 days after graduating high school in Ohio in 1993 and fell in love with whitewater paddling. Mike is a whitewater kayaker and whitewater park designer working with communities all over the US to create whitewater venues on rivers. In 2009 Mike and his friend Zack Hughes founded Badfish SUP in their hometown of Salida, Colorado where they continue to operate to this day. Badfish began because Zack and Mike had discovered the possibility of surfing river waves. In the winter of 2009, Mike built two new waves in their hometown and Zack built them their first river surfing SUPs, once they started surfing the boards together that spring they decided to start Badfish.
