Host Kristin Thomas catches up with Guinness World Record holder, Victoria Burgess!
Victoria first got into SUP from a surfing background, when she started dating her boyfriend, Hawaiian waterman, Roray Kam, in early 2014. She did well with competing locally, but her love for ocean paddling paved the way to some amazing experiences. Victoria threw herself into it heavy from the start, competing that year, her first year, in the Salt Creek BOP. She has been blessed to be able to compete in the most amazing ocean races in the world, such as the M2O, M2M, Rincon Beach Boy and many others. This led Victoria to her biggest accomplishment as of yet, a Guinness World Record being the first female to SUP from Cuba to Key West through the straits of Florida, 115 miles in 27 hours and 48 minutes non-stop.
Victoria loves giving back to the community and teaching others about the sport and the ocean. She is the head coach for her local Special Olympic SUP team, and hosts many clinics and lessons in the sport of both surfing and SUP. Victoria also co-directs the Treasure Coast Paddle Battle and one of the longest run SUP races in Florida, (the RK Sunshine SUP Series). In addition to all that, she's also the Sports Nutrition coach for Paddle Monster (I hold a PhD in Health and Human Performance and CISSN (certified sports nutritionist).
