On the river, Chachi—given name Alexandra Riesco—charges through the surging whitewater with confidence gained through time and experience. In the studio, her printmaking knife slices through linoleum tile with similar grace. With each hand-carved line, she explores the intersection of past and present with landscapes and illustrations shaped by her love of the outdoors.
“You’re really just putting yourself at the mercy of the water or the river. You’re only sort of in control. It’s similar to when you are working on a piece; there is that back and forth of finding the right path or the right mark or the right line.”
In learning to find and follow the flow, Chachi also learned to trust her instincts as an artist and carve her own line through life.
Watch the unexpected intersection of art and the outdoors in Finding Your Line, a short film by Katie Hake.
