NSW, Penrith Lakes, Penrith WhiteWater Stadium

Playspot: Australia, NSW, Penrith Lakes, Penrith WhiteWater Stadium.

What's it like

Penrith Whitewater Stadium is the site for the Slalom Comp in the 2000 Olympics. There are currently 3 good playspots along the course (though the course can be changed and re-configured) with a steep breaking wave, a nice retentive hole called Jack's and the competition hole called the "Deep Fryer ".

The "Fryer" (pictured above) was the site of the 2000 Australian Champs and is ideal for spins, blunts and if you have a very short boat (less than 230 cm) you can get ends as well.
Jack's is a nice deep retentive hole that you can split both sides however you have to watch the rafts surfing below you !
On the wave you can spin both directions and it is fairly easy to blunt right though a little bit trickier to get moves on the left.

How to get there

Penrith Whitewater is extremerly easy to find: from Sydney take Parramatta RD west until it goes into the M4 The M4 has a AUD$ 1.50 toll but takes you all the way to Penrith. From the M4 follow the big blue signs to "Whitewater Stadium "

More info

The address and phone numbers are:

Penrith Whitewater
McCarthy's Lane
Cranebrook 2749
+61 2 47304333

It costs AUD$ 20 to paddle on the course.

Locals

There are set times for slalom paddlers so you don't have to worry about becoming a shish kebab however you have to watch out for the rafts. Since all of the raft guides are playboaters themselves they do try to run you off the waves if you look like you are having fun !
