ok,
I've had quite a few people asking me about Metlako Falls in my new film, Creatures of Habit. Is it the record drop? Or is Alexandria the record? Well, here is my take on the situation. First off...who cares. Personally, I give them both props on throwing their balls over their shoulder and upping the ante as much as they both did. Alexandria is bigger by two feet, so if you go on that alone, lucero's got it. however, if you are only going on 'he paddled over the lip' I think Jesse Sharp has the record at Niagra Falls. Both however crashed. Grove stuck it, he did not swim. Furthermore, lets take skiing. plenty of people tried a misty 700 before it was landed. someone ragdolling off a cliff trying it doesnt cut it. so that my 2 cents, but as i said before...who cares, its all just kayaking...lets not forget that.

It is cool that the guys had the mondo cajones to do those drops but for the record you do have to land it in my opinion. Entertainment wise lets be honest you want to see people swim

In my opinion it doesn't matter if they actually swam or not... At least if they swam they either did their best or did something wrong... Forget entertaining other people, what counts is that the person has fun doing it.... Fun, skills, and balls is what makes kayaking so much more fun...

Hmmmmm, But saying that it counts if they swim is just like saying jumping off a building and dying means youve jumped the highest.

It doesnt work.

IMHO, They have to land and paddle away to have a succesfull drop. If they swim then its a fail IMO.

So, if Corran ran a drop that early, why did ShaunB / Tao ect claim a record.
Was it a vertical drop?
Any pictures?

so 103ft :blah:

John fossett jumped 212ft over the shoshone waterfall in 1930's in a log

so i guess the worldrecord of going over waterfalls will stay in his hands for some time (as it already did)...
s
or does it matter if you were using a spraydeck?, paddeled away?wanked for 2hrs at the shore while scouting?or jumped straightaway?....upside down and survived?backwards, sideways, or?#@#$?

anyway...212ft

about the issue of worldrecord (guiness book). there needs to be some official shooting/measuring/whitnesses etc.,...

so i think this might have been the case with tao and not with others...

i am shitting my pants twice anyway once we start moving above 60ft but it is great to just do :blah: :bitching:

if i was the commitee the rule would be 80 to 90 degree angle and has to paddle away if you swim it doesnt count. you have to hit the shore to make it count

Yes but not from running crazy falls. He died of cancer. I quote from the article.

[color=cyan:0e04c413ce]"That's not what really killed him," Irv said. "He couldn't stand the regimentation of being in a rest home. It was the first time in his life someone told him what to do: when to turn off the light, when to go to bed. It got him down and he just couldn't take it."[/color:0e04c413ce]

So he has the record for going over waterfalls and surviving, but not in a kayak as we know it. Not the standard good old plastic we use these days.
