Hi
I'm paddling now for couple of years on dagger mamba and now I decided to try playboating. I want to learn basic tricks like stern, bow squirt, the ender, spining, looping... But now I face dilema what kind of kayak to buy. I was looking these kayaks: pyranha varun and jed dagger kingpin 6,2 dager G-force 6,1 jackson fun wavesport fuse 48 liquidlogic freeride 57 (I paddled in freeride 57 2 days but have huge, non stop cramps in my feet and I wasn't felling very comfortabe sitting in) I need some tips and advices from experienced playboaters what should I pay attention before buying playboat. Ty in advance. |

It is really hard to find a true playboat that is comfortable and easy to loop. Most of the boats you mention are actually river running playboats, which should be more comfortable and easier to learn most basic skills in than the small park and play alternatives. Looping type moves as well as flatwater cartwheels will be harder to learn in most of them on the other hand. What are your specs (shoe size, inseam, weight)? Your specs really make a difference when choosing a playboat, way more than most other types of boats. Out of the boats you listed the Freeride, which you said was uncomfortable, should be one of the MOST comfortable.
Let me know your specs and I can give more input. Otherwise I just suggest trying a bunch of boats and seeing what works best for you for where and what you want to do. Good luck with the hunt and welcome to the world of small uncomforable, but extremely fun, kayaks |
