What's it like
Sawley Weir is a weir on the River Trent that works best at high water levels. If Holme Pierrepont is flooded up to the middle bridge, Sawley will start to work. If it is flooded up to the Pyramid Pool then big brown wave action is guaranteed. All wave moves (spins, clean 720's, air blunts and green grinding) are possible here. However the tough move is getting on the wave in the first place. The ability to sprint really fast is essential and preferably go there with someone who knows the trick.
How to get there
The weir is visible from the M1 motorway between Nottingham junctions 24 and 25. It is best approached from junction 24. Follow signs to Derby until you see the signposts for Sawley and Long Eaton. Follow these signs, pass under the motorway, past Sawley Marina and over the canal. Park up on the left in the pub car-park ( be sure to keep the landlord happy by buying a few drinks or some lunch ). Walk across the field to the river and paddle upstream for a few minutes.
