Hood River, Dechutes River, Trestle Hole

Playspot: USA, Oregon, Hood River, Dechutes River, Trestle Hole

What's it like

trestlehole.jpg (36092 bytes)

It starts as a green wave that has slightly breaking corners. With higher flow it becomes a river-wide hole. At the right water levels the Trestle Hole becomes a very dynamic playspot. When it is on you can front blast, back blast, spin on both corners, cartwheel either direction, split it up, or do green water flat spins in front of the hole. There is also a surfable green wave behind the hole.

There are big eddies on both sides of the wave. Some words about water levels:

  • Up to 7000 cfs the Trestle is a fun wave.
  • Between 7000 and 8000 it starts to break on itself.
  • Above 8000 it gets really sticky... all the way to 20,000 cfs. Spring is the time!

How to get there

From Hood River, OR go east on I-84 to the Dalles. Take Route 197 south towards Bend. After 33 miles turn left at a yellow flashing light towards Ty Valley. Cross a bridge over the Deschutes River and head downstream. Take the first left on a dirt road. Go two miles and park. The hole is downstream under the Trestle Bridge.
