The award supports you in running safe, quality, enjoyable trips based on your group’s needs and aspirations. This award is ideal for clubs, centres, and activity providers.

Your personalised learning journey
Informal learning, experience-based learning, and the availability of individualised choices are important for developing skilled leaders. Therefore, you can personalise your learning journey towards assessment.

British Canoeing Awarding Body Stand Up Paddleboard White Water Leader training courses are available to help you develop the required skills. These courses typically cover leadership skills, and the associated personal skills, safety and rescue skills. Alternatively, you may wish to opt for more bespoke training opportunities. For example, private tuition, in-house training through your workplace, working alongside/shadowing other Leaders, or conference/symposium workshops.

To become a SUP White Water Leader, you will need to attend a 1–2 day assessment. This will be a safe, engaging and enjoyable couple of days with you at the heart of the process.

“Over the past two years, we have seen a growth in this specific area of Stand Up Paddleboarding, with guided trips within a white water environment, and we are delighted to be able to offer this course in 2024. The content aligns with our other awards within the leadership suite and covers specifics of briefings, equipment, and safety and rescue. It was a privilege that I was able to work alongside the highly experienced and knowledgeable individuals on the SUP White Water Working Group to create a high-quality programme. In early 2024, National Trainers and Providers will attend a specific training event to ensure the standardisation of delivery and assessment.”
