Nick and I paddled this Perception double kayak for 12 miles (19 km) yesterday. It is truly a beast at 15′ 7″ long (475 cm), 34″ wide (86 cm) and 75 lbs (34 kg). However we managed to paddle it to 5 mph (8 km/h) to 5.6 mph (9 km/h) average, with even a sprint at 6.8 mph (11 km/h) catching waves! I am shocked at how good this tandem kayak is. Sitting at the front gets you wet in the waves. You act as a shield for the passenger behind you who stays dry and doesn't get any wind. The bow is very low, with the top at about 6 inch (15 cm) above the water so the waterline is great. The rocker (that banana shape) is nearly unexistent so it doesn't go above the waves but goes through instead. It is very stable. Nick and I are in our fifties and we are between 187 and 198 lbs (85 to 90 kg). We use wing paddles. Nick used a mid wing from Epic and I used an Orka Super Flex Pro.
