Hope everyone is doing well.
I want our great club to continue to be great.
I spoke with many kayak fishermen in Southern California and they all speak very highly of NCKA and they all agree that NCKA is the best kayak fishing organization.

I am sure many of us are under great stress in this difficult period but hope NCKA members will continue to be positive and our website is still a fun and helpful site to visit.
Sorry for the long speech.

My favorite tool is Clauss 18039 8" Titanium Bonded Multi-Purpose Snip.
I always carry this scissor to cut baits, fishing lines, gills and to clean fish.
It is much safer to use a scissor than a knife.
You can typically buy one of these for less than $10.  Amazon's price fluctuates and wait until it gets below $10.

Please share your favorite tool.

Interesting. Does it have enough titanium on it to actually resist corrosion when used long-term in the salt?

I try to minimize the things I bring on the kayak, so the only “tools” I carry are a cheap sheath knife on my PFD and a small pair of fishing pliers in a pocket. I guess the knife is my favorite since I almost never use the pliers.

+1 I try to keep everything minimal as well. My knife, pliers and compass are the only tools. I do stow some leathermans in the back of the yak too. Those do look like some nice snips.

I use it to remove rockfish fins and it last me a season.

Nice!  I use dollar store kitchen sheers.  I usually just rinse them and spritz with WD40 after being on the water.  Theyre great for gutting and gilling while others. The most important thing is to leash them. I've lots every knife I used to use for gutting and a couple of good sheers before I finally leashed them

Don’t have a picture handy but I keep a pair of forceps that have scissors on the lower half of the blades. There on a string tied to my pfd long enough I can get them out as far as I can reach. They slide into the nylon hoop on the pfd strap where it attaches to the buckle.

That’s interesting—I’d never have thought that snips would be so useful.

I’d just add that IMHO, an immediately accessible knife is essential safety gear. So, in my view, snips/shears would not be a substitute for a knife, although it might make a useful addition to the arsenal...

I agreed you need to carry a knife as a safety device.  I have one attached to my PFD.

I use these "Engineer PH-55" for general utility purposes. My only compliant is the handles are not very comfortable.

Does the Clauss have a lock to close the scissors? They seem comfy.

Yes, it has a lock.  It is comfortable to use.
I drill a 1/4" hole at the end of the handle to place a ring and tie it down using a Spring Lanyard Coil.

I have first hand experience with this scissor and I liked a lot until I lost it 😢. Paul gave me a pair after watching me cut my finger last year at Crabfest 😂😂. It's very rust resistant.
