NEW BOARD! 8'2 Genration Wedge
« on: April 06, 2020, 05:06:10 PM »
Hey guys- sharing some new board stoke.  I just got this today and got it out in the water about 20 minutes off the truck!

i am going to put up a review as I think the shape is really groundbreaking for performance sups.

I only have two hours on it (In perfect waist high glass- so grain of salt on the early reviews- any board would have been super fun today) and its by far the best sup I have ever put my feet on.  And I never liked a new/ demo board immediately!

more to come........ Pics below!

Are you going to put a deck pad on, or just go with wax?

Are you going to put a deck pad on, or just go with wax?

I had the tailpad 'in stock' so i threw that on.  I have some front surfboard traction as well as some other generic 3m pad around but didnt want to choose position etc vs getting on a small window to surf (I had to teach Kindergarten math to my son in 2 hrs  ;)  )

After riding it with just wax I remembered all my wax vs pad issues:

Wax:

Pros:

- unbeatable grip with booties. I definetly saved falls today purely because of wax when paddling around (not on the wave)

- Super light

- Better for grip when really trying to move an 8  foot sup, I was glued when  I  was on the wave today compared to my pad boards

Cons:

- Mess : I dont have a day bag for my sups so any extended car time (I fit this in my suv) and wax melts. As well- I always bring multiple boards in my SUV.  So inevitably i get wax on the bottom of one of my other boards stacked

- Paddle Wax:  i put my paddle across the board when i hop up. every time I do that a little wax transfers to my paddle. after 2-3 hrs i have a really waxy sticky paddle which isnt for me.

- When bootie season is over no pad really starts to get taxing on the feet.

at the end of the day despite the downsides, Im sticking with wax for now.  I had another no pad board a few years back and put a pad on soley because of the waxy paddle issues.  With this board I can put the paddle above the wax patch and still get up....so that may solve things.   Will be a fun experiment.  Headed out in AM to see more!

Best news I've heard for weeks! Glad you're getting some. I love the stepped rails. I bet that thing turns on a dime.
It's not overhead to me!
8'8" L-41 ST and a whole pile of boards I rarely use.

It really does.   i'll try to stoke up zoners with a full review since they are rare (outside of foil news) these days....but it really did!.....the tail is perfect.  It pumps as well as a surfboard no joke. But it needs to turn to generate speed. I got lazy and did an angled take off on one wave and it felt like I had an anchor behind me trying to go straight down the line.  Good bottom turn..rocket boosters.

Nice quick review, I’ve got a Speed that’s just waiting for the green light - to go back out n play in the water.
On paddles n wax - I use wax on all my paddles - it’s messy but hands arms and shoulders are so much more relaxed with that extra grip.

Although I snapped back to reality and probably best wait for this virus to calm down before getting together to surf and play with the Soloshot.

Wow! I am jealous of that board. Beautiful. Without the traction pad, look epic! Perhaps a front deck pad like the one made by RS PRO would be a good option? Its made of cork, and would blend nicely with that board!
