What a difference one month makes. Covid has changed so much of our daily lives. USA cases per the CDC on February 29 were 24. Today the total is 122,000.

Today’s count

More cases or more testing?

Except that some are being charged for terror threats for similar actions. Like making certain jokes or threat at an airport or on a plane. It can escalate fast in unpleasant ways.

I can certainly understand the small town limitations of medical resources during a situation like this, but sounds to me like these folks chose to shelter in place in Tahoe and I don't see a problem with that as long as they aren't traveling back and forth to their permanent home else where.

Tensions run high when folks get put on the spot and I've never met anyone who was willing to admit they made a mistake when confronted as you reported you did.  In fact, I'd say they reacted exactly as most anyone might.

My advice is to keep safe.  You do not want to go to the hospital because someone got offended and took it to a physical level.  Sounds like it was headed that way, sheriff getting involved and all.  And it might not be over yet.  A few drinks for courage and they could be back.  The best thing we can all do is what ever it takes to stay healthy and out of a hospital full of COVID-19 patients.

And I thought we were supposed to go from 15 to zero.  :smt011

Interesting comparison going on in Singapore

As of today total of 519 cases

3rd highest population density in the world, plus a dependence on flow in and out of huge migrant labor population(a couple of days ago 32 out of 49 new cases were imported)

A family at work just arrived from there told me about restaurants and businesses remaining open there but with strict distancing laws, taking temperature and screening at the door

+ their already notoriously strict hygiene laws

Get caught spitting or with chewing gum and the penalty is public caning

My sister is in Hong Kong, and they’ve had a similar response as Singapore, although businesses did close. Expats that bolted because they didn’t want to get locked down returning afterward has driven another wave, so they’re shutting down again.

The SARS changed everything in that regard over there, most of that region does not mess around with unknown infectious diseases.

Keep safe folks.  And as importantly, think about your actions on others.  It may seem like social distancing for you to go out on your kayak, but you doing that keeps first responders from being able to cover more critical areas.  You can sit it out for another month and probably not have too much fishing withdrawal.  We're in this together.
