Had an awesome time out there!! So many people using shovels, knifes, and other tool to pull them off. A shame really as they're not all that hard to remove by hand.

Cant wait to chef up!  I spent a good amount of time at HMB brewing co afterwards as well. Fantastic beers!

Next time call Caltip, especially for the shovels. That place gets ravaged by idiots breaking the law every low tide weekend. 888-334-2258

@Alien,  We got one gaper clam at the beach right below Sam's Chowder house.  We were only testing to see if they were there.  Brought a tube and dug with our hands since the clam gun didn't really work, it was about 2-3 feet down, took about 10 minutes.  Wasn't too bad, clam was tasty.  Now completely stuffed with mussels and bread.

Take photos or videos too!  I've called the wardens a few times and they come out when they're close. They will call you back so dont freak out. The photos help with the IDs.

Remember, those folks are POACHERS that are destroying the resource.  Of course, I always try to educate them first... but if I get the "f^ck-off" response, I just pull out my phone.

Tip: mussels on the outer edge have fewer barnacles and less sand

That’s inside the harbor. I personally wouldn’t eat clams from there.

I took photos and submitted a tip via the app. I plan on calling the office today to provide a more detailed explanation of what i saw. Would be an easy day for them if they just parked out there.

Yum

Looks delicious.  Is it spaghetti noodle?

Yes!!

Its a white wine sauce with garlic, chili, parsley, a tiny bit of olive oil, then S&P.  steam the mussels in it, pull them out and shuck, make the pasta (And reduce the sauce down while its cooking) then mix it all back together after straining the pasta

Easy and tasty

I also saw Gooseneck Barnacles there.  Anyone know the regulation for them?

i found this, but its dated and not entirely descriptive... check out the 2nd FAQ down. https://californiaoutdoors.wordpress.com/tag/depredation-permit/

EDIT:
"29.05. General.

(b) Take of all invertebrates is prohibited within state marine reserves. Take of certain invertebrates may be prohibited within state marine parks and state marine conservation areas as per sub-section 632(b). In addition, tidal invertebrates may not be taken in any tidepool or other areas between the high tide mark (defined as Mean Higher High Tide) and 1,000 feet seaward and lateral to the low tide mark (defined as Mean Lower Low Water) except as follows:

(1) Except where prohibited within state marine reserves, state marine parks, state marine conservation areas, or other special closures only the following may be taken: red abalone, limpets, moon snails, turban snails, chiones, clams, cockles, mussels, rock scallops, native oysters, octopuses, squid, crabs, lobsters, shrimp, sand dollars, sea urchins and worms except that no worms may be taken in any mussel bed, unless taken incidental to the harvesting of mussels."

Looks like you gotta be on the kayak for that!

Thanks Christian for the quick info.  I will do some research on this later.  Never tried them but I heard they are a delicacy in Europe.
