Welcome!  There's a few Korean folks on the board.  :smt003    I took the family to Seoul a few years ago for my cousin's wedding.  I was happily shocked to find multiple kayak fishing shows on the local TV stations!

Thanks Crash!
I agree with your point!
I'll keep the fish only when I have confidence what it is.

Fortunately, quite a many fish from bay area are similar with Korea's.
For example, Halibut, black rockfish, Lingcod and so on.
I guess it because Korean & US share the pacific. it was interesting.

Welcome Jimmy!

Use caution when just learning the fishing rules.

Many fish names are used very loosely, and it can lead to serious consequences. Striped bass, sea bass, rock bass, rock fish, and rockfish mean different things to different people around the country.

You don’t want to be the new guy who thinks that sea bass and rockfish are the same fish, catch a Black Sea bass, and think you caught a world record black rockfish as you take photographs of it on your kitchen counter.

That example might seem a little far fetched, but I think there’s a chance it could happen.

Stay safe.

I'm about to start the striper delta run soon. Sturgeon is going hot if but I don't have the skill or electronics for that yet. Trout if you're willing to make a run up the foothills to the lakes. Happy hunting.

Many fishermen spend their lives chasing fish, only to realize that it was themselves that they were chasing.

The "Salty" in my handle refers to my attitude, not the waters I fish

Sound interesting!
I've got experience with sea bass in Korea, but never got striper yet.
I'd like to try when I get opportunity.

Welcome. Do you have stories from kayak fishing in Korea?

This is exactly the sort of thing I was talking about.

Our black rockfish are not found in the western Pacific.

There is a different, similar looking fish called a black rockfish in Korea.

Also, why are wave walkers so prevalent when I search Korea kayak fishing?  Is that just some SEO stuff?  I remember the owner of that company engaged in some black and grey SEO before.  Weird.

Actually Korean don't call it black rockfish but call it Korean fish name "Uruk" which is not english.
A zoological name of fish is "Sebastes schlegelii". It's pretty much same as black rockfish.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sebastes_schlegelii
and sometimes people call it black rockfish even in paper. see below article of nature.

Which is exactly the point I was making. Different species are called the same name in different locations. The same species is called different names in different locations. The names are very regional and even differ between northern and Southern California with some species.
