Lake Sonoma is in good shape. Lots of water. Color was off green with 5ish feet of vis. Surface temps were 53. Weather was all over the place. Sunny and calm, overcast and windy, cold and rainy, back to sunny and calm. I caught bass and trout trolling, and bass casting.

I got a late start and headed to the lake around 1030. I stopped in at the hatchery to see what was going on with the steelhead in the Russian River. There were steelhead in the holding pools below the hatchery. They looked like they had been in the river for a while. Usually the fish in that area are chrome, but we really haven’t gotten enough rain to pull fresh fish in.

I moved on to the lake and found a mostly empty parking lot. I got unloaded and onto the water around noon. I started trolling and hooked up a small trout pretty quickly followed by a lmb and a smb shortly after. I then made the mistake of leaving fish to find fish and didn’t get anything for awhile. I doubled back to where I had caught the first fish and started finding them again.

So what worked was pulling plugs around the dam area and dragging a jig along rocky areas. All the fish came from shallow water close to shore and trolling across points.

Ahhh...I see.  Lol. Most lures are to catch the fisherman’s wallet.   I must have it!

Went back out today to try out my new bass rod. I threw an A-Rig around and found them biting. Nothing too big. Biggest LMB was a little over 16. Bass were sitting on the bottom in 15-30 ft water. I got them on jigs and the A-Rig. Didn’t try for trout.

Water temp dropped 1 degree to 52. Clarity is still good.
