Trip Announcement: Sail, hike, and kayak below Norwegian auroras

We're proud to announce that we've now partnered with Oceanwide Expeditions and on our new trip you'll sail, hike, and kayak below Norwegian auroras.

Let's go to Norway! Want to join us and the leaders in polar exploration?

This is a voyage is a trip you'll never forget! With our new partnership with Oceanwide Expeditions, this trip will fully immerse passengers in an enchanting Arctic wonderland as they sail, hike, and enjoy an expert-led kayak course. Take the next step or the first step in developing your expedition skills to empower your next trips. Join TRAK and Oceanwide Expeditions in Tromsø for this spectacular sea kayaking and sailing expedition including hiking and viewing the aurora borealis! In this exhilarating supplemental activity, you’ll join an exclusive group of four to eight other kayakers, use state-of-the-art touring kayaks, and learn key kayaking skills from expert guides – and all in the pristine Arctic environment of Northern Norway. One thing that we love about this trip is that participants do not have to be paddlers. Friends, loved ones and partners may participate even if they have no desire to paddle. Everyone is welcome on the combination expedition of sailing, sea kayaking and hiking.

This is a great opportunity for anyone to join us and try a TRAK 2.0 kayak before you buy. It's like an in-depth immersive test-drive! You'll get a chance to learn about the benefits of this modern skin-on-frame kayak and advance your paddling skills at the same time. For current TRAK owners, you have the unique option to bring your own TRAK kayak and avoid the kayak surcharge. Win-win!

What we're going to do: The Northern Norway coastline is renowned for its beauty - a forested terrain contoured with rugged mountains and vast fjords that has twice been voted the best travel destination in the world by National Geographic. And it’s not just during the summer months that Norway shows off its splendours, but the winter as well: the mountains are capped with snow, the sun hangs heavy on the skyline, and everything is embraced in a lustrous coat of frost. In the far north, about 500 km (310 miles) northeast of the Arctic Circle, the Lyngen and Kvaenangen fjords can be found, between which we find steep mountain ridges, remote islands, and a wealth of hiking opportunities. These areas provide the ultimate wilderness experience, as ideal for exploration by foot as by sail.

If you choose to do the kayaking portion, this course focuses on daily kayak skills progression. You’ll split into two groups of four people, and each group will be offered one outing per day (morning or afternoon) lasting one to two hours. If local conditions permit, we’ll have five activity days from Sunday to Thursday.

Groups that kayak in the morning will return for lunch aboard the vessel, at which point they’ll swap activities with the morning hiking group.

Do I need to be an experienced kayaker to participate? - No, not at all!

Basic kayaking experience is helpful but not a requirement. We will accommodate your skill level and work toward helping you become a better paddler. Physical fitness, however, is essential. This camp is aimed at beginners and intermediate kayakers who’ll enjoy kayaking in sheltered fjords, bays, and small secluded harbours. We will build skills based on your current level to help you increase your confidence and competence for the seasons of paddling to come. It’s a fun set of activities in a leisurely format for everyone.
