Registration Is Open For The 2020 Frostbite! Symposium

Registration has opened for the Frostbite Symposium which will take place January 3rd to 5th in 2020. Frostbite! is hosted at Foothills Camp & Retreat Centre. The camp is located approximately 25 minutes west of the QE2 highway, near Bowden, AB

Frostbite is Canada's 1st winter gathering that brings together instructors and students to learn and explore the art of winter travel in the Canadian Bush. The instructors are both students and volunteers, but represent collectively, some of the most respected names in outdoor education, bushcraft and wilderness survival in Canada.

Be sure to check out the schedule for the event.

Things that are new this year:

  • Sessions have been lengthened to 4 hours to accommodate time intensive sessions such as Willow Baskets and Bow Making

    • Individual workshops will run from 90 - 240 minutes, start times will vary

  • Registration fees must be paid within 48 hours, or course registrations will be cancelled

  • Kid Friendly Courses:  Consider linking Kid Friendly Mittens with Crystal together with Open Weaving with Jess.  Great courses to do as a parent/child team.

Things to Remember:

  • Foothills Camp Kitchen will be open during Frostbite and serving vegetarian meals.  Meal reservations must be made at least 7 days in advance.

  • Bushcraft Rummage Sale.  Place your old, extra outdoor gear and crafts up for sale, silent auction or trade.  $1.00/item. Auction will be called, then all sales to be facilitated by the seller.

Things that Might Happen:

Frostbite! is working with an Instructor Duo to potentially offer a snowshoe lacing workshop that would start the day before Frostbite.  You will learn the secrets of lacing traditional snowshoes with monofilament, a brilliant collision between the ancient and the modern.  This event would run from 9:30am on Thursday, until 5:00pm on Friday. You would leave with a new pair of freshly laced snowshoes. Costs are still being calculated, and we will let you know how things develop.  To be added to the mailing list for this course, please send a message to frostbitesymposium@gmail.com

Registration is $65 which provides access to the following:
