Accurate Tern 400 is a phenomenal salmon reel, vastly superior to a  puny Avet SX. Max drag of #31 vs #14 for one, why are you guys afraid to try something new?

When's the last time you used even 14# of drag on a salmon?

First things first, you have tried a Tern 400? Or are you recommending against it never having even held one?

I am not recommending against it, or for it, for that matter.  Just that a drag rating comparison of this type, in the context of salmon reels, is not so useful.  IMO.

I favor lever drags for Baja fishies byr prefer star drags for NorCal rockfish and salmon.  Just me tho.

That is a great forum, makes me want to take apart a reel.

I have a new 8' Lamiglass rod and will pick up the Avet next week. It will be a nice combo. I hope I can hook into a couple of salmon.

Thanks for the help...

I have, deep dropping cod with +16oz jigs.  Gonna be a great option for people once peeps start seeing them in action.  Not the smoothest reel but it’s a powerhouse.

Honestly I don’t think you can go wrong with either option.

Well you guys settled it for me. I'm going for an Avet SX. The lever drag seems like a good way to go and something new to play with. Off to Outdoor Pro next week...
Consider the avet g2 sxj, 20lbs if drag, notched rail for incremental adjustment and more narrow for less thumb lining width.  Carries a little less line but I doubt you’ll ever see the spool.  I preset my drag to 9lbs max on 30lb braid. :smt006

More confusion! :smt003

Avet has so many combinations, they even have a 3 speed Raptor.

I do like the rail so I think I will go with the G2. I just prefer a rod clamp and the SXJ does not have that. It's not like I would need the extra line capacity of the SX. I plan on using 30 pound braid.

I'll have to pick up a spring scale...

Thanks Eddie!
