I really like my (3) astral ronny fisher pfds.

I have/had NRS Chinook, NRS C-vest (old style), Stohlquist Fisherman, Kokatat Bahia, and Stearns 5550.  At the end of the day, I like the ones with the high back better.  I would say you will have to figure out what essentials you want on your PFD and that will drive your selection.

My C-Vest is my go-to guy, but the Astral Ronny Fisher is my coolest one  :smt007   ... lol ...

Yup, thats the one! The vertical zipper on the right side (left if you’re wearing it) expands to become a cup/beer holder! That was a major selling point for me :-)

The best part about the Astral Ronny Fisher is the built-in hood.  You may forget sunblock, face mask, hat, etc, but usually never the PFD.

I like my Chinook. I put the radio in a pocket and let the antenna stick out.

I am going to check out some of these others for when I need a replacement.

Dangit! You all had me sold, but the Ronny Fisher is only available in S/M and the Chinook in either S/M or XXL. Big donut hole in sizing for us "normal" guys.

I read some where that the bodies of the life vests are the same size and that the webbing straps are the only things that really change. In theory you could get a size larger and just trim the straps. Don’t quote me on this though not 100% sure

I e got the semiautomatic inflatable. It’s extremely comfy, cool and doesn’t interfere with the seat back, BUT there is nowhere to put the radio, so I haven’t even used it.

Am considering using a GoPro chest harness under the off to hold the radio.

I also have an NRS Chinook and I like it, mainly because the back portion rides above my seat. Next PFD I buy though I think it will be the Ronnie Fisher by Astral.

I was doing the same last year -after 5 years my zipper was not working on one side then soon the other..but I figured it the last of things i bought five years ago to salt away so maybe i would just get a new one...wow....im glad i did not get anything other than the fisherman..my new one is so clean and green lol....i knew right away where stuff goes and the toughness is evenident when you hold the new one next to the bloody worn out ones...like new tires for bike...new is nicer

Thinking about getting a new PFD to replace my Stohlquist, and read lots of good things about the NRS Chinook. Any difference between the "Chinook" and the "Chinook OS"? One extra pocket and $20 more is all that I can see...

We are what we pretend to be, so we must be careful about what we pretend to be.

I want to stay as close to the edge as I can without going over. Out on the edge you see all kinds of things you can't see from the center.
