Rescue crews search for missing kayaker in N.J. reservoir

Rescue crews are out of for a second day looking for a kayaker who went missing in Splitrock Reservoir in Morris County.

Rockaway Township police got a report at 3:15 p.m. Monday of a man whose kayak overturned, Trooper Alejandro Goez of the State Police said Tuesday morning.

The State Police's marine services unit searched below the surface for several hours before poor visibility forced the effort to be suspended for the night. The missing kayaker's name was not released.

Last month, a woman was rescued in the reservoir after her kayak drifted about 1,500 feet from her.

The 625-acre reservoir is surrounded by about 1,500 acres of woods, straddling the border of Kinnelon and Rockaway Township.

The Rockaway Township Fire Department and other local agencies assisted in the search Monday.

Rockaway Township police referred questions about the search to State Police.
